LOS ORGANOS, MAGICAL NATURE.

Los Organos are volcanic formation  localized in Vallehermoso,  La Gomera. It name was given because it remember  the famous instrument of churchs ( the organs). Magma emerged from sea to create this amazing shapes  with different densities through out thouthands of years. Sea, wind, thermal shock or rain erosion made  finally this spectacular figures. The result is a mix of columns of uniform, abrupt and simetrical rocks.

VILAFLOR, A VILLAGE IN ALTITUDE.

Vilaflor is the highest Village of  Spain ( 1500 m. altitude) . The narrow of their streets define one of the most important characteristic of urbanism in islands.  The center of the village is a quite place to visit, near to nature and integrated in forest crown of Tenerife, next to Las Cañadas National Park.

Vilaflor can be enjoyed when is visited with different atractive activities of leisure, food and culture:

a.-Sports.  Mountain and outdoor sports , like paragliding, climbing and mountain biking are a good  chance to take the most of the island.

b.-Nature. It is the perfect place to find characteristical  fauna containing species as important as blue chaffinch, the great spotted woodpecker, sparrowhawk, buzzard, kestrel, dove, common mosquito net, crow…

c.-Agriculture and Livestock.  Very well known is the quality of  mineral water extracted from galleries, taken to suministrate   the rest of the island.  When we talk about agricultural wealth we can find potatoes, honey, almonds, figs, and grapes. Cheese is obtained from goats and it organic farming is well known

d.-Architecture. Church of St. Peter  Apostle and the birthplace of Blessed Hermano Pedro, Pedro de San Jose Betancur are other interesting places to visit.

e.-Food. Canarian potatoes, mojo picon, salted fish, dogfish and cod-pot canary, goat meat, artisan cheeses , cakes almond shortbread …

A good client has sent us his particular point of view about the restaurants he visited in Tenerife during the days he  stayed here and we are delighted to share it:

RESTAURANTS IN TENERIFE

The Guachinches are rural restaurant were home made wine is sold. Stews are well known also, and very atractive with a good price. Most of them are localized in La VictoriaLa Victoria, La Matanza, Santa Ursula, La Perdoma, etc..

Casa Lino was recommended but we coudnt find it but we knew about a similar called Guachinche Lito in Santa Ursula. We ate chikpeas and grilled rabbit

Also pork ribs grilled could be tried and it look very appetizing. Wine was nice but as Guachinches tradition dictate dessert or coffe are not available or not served. ( 13 Euros / person)

TACORONTE

La Quinta Crespo   Restaurant .- Fresh fish and local wine. Tacoronte to Tejina, 161 , Tacoronte (Tel: 922.56.04.46) Chikpeas with Cod and Old Stew, only boiled in salted water, onion and bay leaf.  I have never tried a fish with so delicate and tasty meat. The la vieja had a very nice texture and taste with aromas of fresh seafood. It was really a delicious meal. For dessert we had a homemade cake of 3 milk and a papaya with orange juice

GARACHICO

Trasmayo  Restaurant , specialized in seafood and meats.  General Road Las Cruces Garachico ( 2km from Garachico) (Tel: 922.83.02.74)

A real good fried squid and fish . I asked for vieja back but i have to admit i like more stewed. Is much better texture and flavour of the meal of this excellent fish.  ICouldn´t not tell what was the best ( 20 Euros / person)

LA OROTAVA

Liceo Taoro Restaurant. We wanted to try to Canary dishes.: Watercress cream and salmorejo source rabbit, so we could found it here, a little palace with a beatiful garden in the center of La Orotava. ( 15 Euros). Distinguished and impeccable service must be proud of having a superb cuisina with a good presentation and careful preparation. Coffe can be enjoyed of the terrace overlooking the garden in a very relaxed atmosphere.

TAGANANA

Casa Africa Restaurant .- Roque de las Bodegas , 3,.- Phone 922.59.01.00 Rustic ,  very popular for tourists, but with a very good traditional food. Fruit salad and vegetables (great) - fried octopus and red peppers (real good). Cherne and wrinkled potatoes fried with red mojo (good). (17 Euros / person).

I loved  red mojo and i asked if  could sell me, so their packaged in jars at the price of 3 euros . I think it´s worth taking it as souvenir so I can remember at home in future when i stayed in Canaries eating potatoes seasoned with mojo. We must to be careful to put the jar well protected in the ckecked bag.

GARACHICO

VIEWPOINT GARACHICO RESTAURANT - General Rd San Juan del Repair, 54 Garachico (on the road that looks Garachico below) - (tel.: 922.83.02.94)

Place  with a overwhelming  view of Garachico and  the coast of the village . I ate  Rancho Canario. extraordinary as anywhere.

THE OROTAVA

Restaurant Sabor Canario near the Casa de los Balcones. I came here because I had very good memories of other times. This time i din´t like at all.

MONTE DE LA ESPERANZA - Las  Lagunetas

BAR Restaurant Laguneta - 922.69.03.06. It is a house in the middle of the mountain. Very rustic place but very interesting where Tipical Canarian food is served. . It is a house in the middle of the mountain. nteresting place to eat in a days you have a nice trip14 E/ person)

GUARGACHO (Las Galletas)

Guachinche el Cordero. Villa Lomo 1 (922.73.41.71)

Just before reaching Guargacho. Recognizable because it is always full of cars parking.  Very well known and famous in the island because the prices and service. Rustic very large, with two dining rooms, an indoor and outdoor- Not only specialized in Canary tipical cuisine but also in grilled meat: delicious.   You can order a combination of several things on the grill: Hot dogs, sausage, chicken, pork, ribs, veal.. The veal chops grilled great. (20 Euros)

COFFEE, DRINKS AND SPIRITS.

One of the gifts  of this travel have been coffes and shots of the Canaries. Ordinary coffe is not special at all to one who is to other kind of coffee but is remarkable Zaperoco o Barraquito: coffe,  natural milk, condensed milk, lemon peel, cinamon and liquor, (Licor 43, Tia Maria or Kahlua).

When we talk about shot at the end of the meal ask not  for  the classical apple, peach, or herbs shot but Honey or Caramel Vodka. They are exquisite.

SUMMARY

Of all I want to remark  Quinta Crespo Tacoronte Restaurant. The best service and the best food at the best price with a waiter very friendly  : Miguel Acosta.

SOME LETTERS OF OUR CLIENTS….

First of all I want you to tell you that everything was perfect. The two hotel we stayed were great.  What we liked most was the house of La Matanza. We loved the furniture and deco stile and of course the sea view,. but also Last Galletas villa was cool. Rosa and Maria Jesus, take care of us and they were very friendly. The apartaments that were assigned to us were the best so we are going to request this apartaments for the next time.

We went up to Teide Mountain and we  stayed in Altavista refuge and the next morning, in dawn we were at the top. Magnificient sight can be discover up there. Coming down was snowing most of the time so the land kept white. Beatiful. We did several tours very nice: Taganana, Barranco de Masca, Villaflor moonscape.

Although we couldn´t enjoyed the restorant your recommended us we could have nice lunch in not tourist but Canaries homemade food,always tasteful . I want you to send other places we went to eat, so you can try them and recommend.

CHEESE OF CANARY ISLANDS. DREAMS OF TASTE

Cheese is one of the most gastronomic Canary Islands value. From precolombines times to present has become one of most important  part of our culture  livestock sector of our economy.

There are several types of cheese:

- Cheese in bloom.Is it must be made with special care and it is only sold in April and May.  The result of all  is a good compact mass. The texture is creamy and the flavor has a slightly bitter taste.

- Cheese in half flower. It treatment also requires special care. It is a creamy cheese, soft, compact which mixes  goat, cow and sheep millk

- Northern  mixture cheese. Is a mixture of animal or industrial curd with a smooth taste and  crust stuffed with paprika.

- Sheep cheese. Quite fatty with a much more intense taste and smell and as much is cured is  more spicy to palate become.

- Cow cheese. Is not as common as goat or  sheep but also can be found. The mass is more compact and  taste more acid.

- Sounthern Cheese mixture . Semi cool, very compact and smooth

- The goat cheese. Is a compact paste, with a yellowish crust when is it heals. Some are smeared with oil and gofio. Has a strong flavor and slightly spicy.

- Southern goat cheese. Strong aroma and acid taste , but nice. It is easy to be consumed cured and semi cured,  andin fact to mature it is rubbed with  gofio and paprika One of the most common use of cheese is to use it as pate.  This special cheese pate  is called .  The texture and sensation when you try it  are unforgettable.

PARADIGLING IN CANARY ISLANDS, REACH THE SKY, TOUCH HEAVEN

Paradigling in Canary Islands should be a world wide well known experience  because the extraordinary conditions to develope this activity. The altittude of the islands and  abrupts amazing landscapes invite us to enjoy  one of the most important  adventure attraction.  Also, Maybe the special climate conditions help learners to improve this sport when they have  chance to practice more offently (most part of the year  sun and late light make perfect opportunities to excersise it). Diferent vegetation levels can be found depending of the altittude of the island, so you can find coast, termophilic and laurel forest and high mountain . Never mind jf you find  clouds covering sky or a sunny day with a beautiful sightseeing of the sea, Watching ravines o arid land extension should be another unforgettable experience. Contemplating the inmensity of the ocean, being  witness of the waves beating the coast or  admiring the silhouette of other island could be, surely, one of the best gift you can make yourself  be proud enough   of living it
