Known as the “must” of the Canaries
and located in Puerto de la Cruz, its facilities include 135,000
square metres, which means that they can house the big and the
small. Although when it first opened, this themed park received
its fame due to its magnificent collection of parrots, the largest
in the world, today it provides a home to a number of species
that live in this subtropical park which reproduces their natural
habitat. Its residents include tigers, gorillas, chimpanzees,
caimans, pelicans, jaguars, flamingos, sea lions, monkeys and
even a giant turtle from the Galapagos Islands and these make
up the population of one of the most interesting leisure parks
in the world.
Aside from having the largest dolphin population in Europe that
perform daily shows, the Loro Parque also offers amazing entertainment
where the commentators are parrots. The sea lions also provide
entertainment or alternatively visitors can simply enjoy observing
Planet Penguin, the largest Penguin enclosure in the world, which
was inaugurated in 1999 and which was constructed as an Antarctic
habitat to house 200 penguins. These include penguins from the
South Pole and from tropical lands. There are 58 king penguins,
46 Papua penguins, 44 Saltrock penguins and 44 Humboldt penguins.
